Preventing Cuts to the LPC’s Budget

The Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) has historically been the city’s smallest agency, even though it must oversee tens of thousands of landmarked properties across New York City and survey hundreds of thousands more to ensure that historically significant sites are protected. Cuts to the agency have been proposed in the two most recent municipal budgets, but such reductions will only diminish LPC’s ability to protect endangered historic properties before they become extinct, and to ensure the diverse histories of New York City are honored and existing designated properties receive the careful attention they deserve.
