Let your legislators know you support the Veterinary Medicine Building expansion

To continue to serve the state of Wisconsin, the UW School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) must update and expand its current facilities.

A top 10 school, the SVM helps make both animal and human lives better while training the next generation of veterinary medical leaders. However, the Veterinary Medicine Building can no longer accommodate patient demand in its teaching hospital and critical research is in jeopardy because of limits on available space.

To continue their groundbreaking work, they need to break new ground.

The school will need the state’s support in order to expand. You can help by asking your elected state officials to include the school’s building expansion project in the 2019-21 state budget.

Support the UW School of Veterinary Medicine building expansion

Dear Official,

As your constituent, I ask that you include the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine’s building expansion project in the 2019-21 state budget.

The UW School of Medicine (SVM) has trained more than 50% of the veterinarians practicing in the state. Their teaching hospital provides exceptional care for animals from all over the world, yet 80% of their caseload is from Wisconsin. Research conducted by the school directly impacts Wisconsin citizens – from improving cow comfort and production on the state’s dairy farms, to hosting the Midwest center monitoring and preventing tick and mosquito transmitted diseases, to developing strategies to protect the state’s fish and tourism industries. Their work saves animal and human lives – from advancing cancer treatments to creating new ways to fight the flu.

While the school and its impact have grown significantly since it opened in 1983, its building has not. The school is raising one-third of the total project cost but to move forward, they need your support.  It is important that this critical resource to the state has the facilities they need to conduct their important work. Please include the school of veterinary medicine’s expansion project in the 2019-21 budget.
