Texas may soon be home to the world’s largest ethane cracker – a plastics manufacturing facility that will create hundreds of permanent jobs for Texans – but opponents and their Big Green allies are trying to stop it.

Tell the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality that you support the San Patricio County ethane cracker.

Gulf Coast Growth Ventures, a joint venture of ExxonMobil and SABIC, is planning to build the facility in San Patricio County, but local activists are trying to deny them air and water permits from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

Activists are desperate to stop the project, making false accusations left and right. They’ve even called in national environmentalist groups like the Sierra Club and the Center for Biological Diversity to help them advocate against Texas’ best interests. But San Patricio County and the rest of the Coastal Bend region need the jobs and economic growth that the plant will deliver.

Texas Commission on Environmental Quality,

The Gulf Coast Growth Ventures (GCGV) ethane cracker project will provide much-needed jobs and economic opportunity for San Patricio County and the Coastal Bend region. During construction, the project will support 6,000 jobs and generate $22 billion in economic activity for the state of Texas.

To proceed, the facility needs air and water permits from TCEQ. But we are concerned that your agency has been misled by a group called Portland Citizens United (PCU), which claims to speak for local citizens. Curiously, PCU has been working with the Sierra Club – a radical environmental group based in California – to try to stop the GCGV project in Texas.

As a resident of the Coastal Bend region, PCU does not speak for me – and that group is trying to mislead all of us.

For example, PCU has alleged that proper notice was not given for a public meeting regarding a draft wastewater permit on December 11, 2017. But, following TCEQ guidelines, GCGV ran a large ad in the Corpus Christi Caller-Times in advance of the meeting.

PCU also claimed to have hired a journalist to report on ethane crackers, but the journalist and his publication denied ever working with PCU.

The Coastal Bend region needs new economic opportunities, which is exactly what the GCGV project will deliver. Misinformation from a handful of opponents should not dictate whether we can have high-paying jobs.

I encourage you to review GCGV’s permit application on the merits, not based on misinformation from PCU and its radical environmentalist allies. Our economic future in the Coastal Bend is simply too important.
