Oppose FMPA’s proposed $600/year fee hike
I was outraged to learn that Jacob Williams, CEO of Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA), recently told municipal utility leaders that they should impose a fixed, monthly $50 fee to make solar customers “go away.” Charging an additional $600 a year for electricity hurts everyone, but it’s especially harmful to low and middle-income families and people who have invested in rooftop solar systems and energy efficiency improvements in their homes. It’s important for leaders of Jacksonville's electric utility to speak out publicly against higher fixed charges. Please tell FMPA Chair Barbara Quiñones to disavow their proposed $600/year fixed charge and remind FMPA that municipal-owned utilities have a responsibility to support people to control their energy costs by going solar and using less energy.
