We need Congress to fully understand that over three million frontline home care aides are caring for eight million Americans during this public health crisis. Now, more than ever home-based care and community services (HBCS) have come to the forefront as a way to keep those at the highest risk at home while receiving the care they need under the watchful eye of a home care professional.

However, in the absence of the appropriate support, protections, and funding, the safety and retention of this workforce and these crucial services are in jeopardy at a time when it they are needed most.

Remind your representatives how important home and community based services are to the American people. Remind them why they should include enhanced funding for them. Remind them these services are essential and those providing them are too. After all, #WeAreEssential

Increased federal funding for Medicaid HCBS
Enhanced wages for the heroic efforts of the frontline home care aides
Granting financial assistance to states to ensure that Medicaid Home and Community Based Services programs can remain viable for the vulnerable patients and families they serve

Please Support Home Care Front Line Workers and Home and Community Based Services

Dear Official,

As your constituent, I am reaching out on behalf of the millions of home care workers who work tirelessly to ensure Americans are able to stay home with their friends and loved ones, receiving the quality care  and services they so desperately need, while remaining infection free during this ongoing public health emergency. 
The Medicaid home and community based services (HCBS) they provide mean the world to seniors and individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, as does continued, vital, support for these programs.

I write to urge you  to take action that  will provide much need funding for enhanced wages for the direct care workforce and funding to the Medicaid HCBS programs that are enabling at-risk populations to remain safe at home during this pandemic.   The home care community also needs financial relief to be granted to states due to declined tax revenue directly related to COVID-19 stay-at home orders so that  home care workers can continue providing care to the people most at-risk due to this pandemic. The services provided  to Medicaid-eligible individuals allow at-risk populations to receive services in their own home or community rather than in increasingly overburdened institutions or isolated settings.

Millions of front line home care workers have been providing these essential services on the frontline of health care, often times putting themselves, and their families, at risk for COVID-19 exposure by providing hands-on services in homes and communities across the country. Unfortunately, very little federal relief has been offered to support hazard pay or offset the escalating cost of personal protective equipment (PPE) that has been provided. 
The time is long overdue to recognize and support these heroic efforts as an integral part of the healthcare delivery system. I am grateful for your support and ask for your continued recognition of this essential home care service and the frontline caregivers that day in and day out provide health sustaining services to individuals safely in their homes during the pandemic and beyond.

Thank you in advance for your support to the home care community and inclusion of appropriate support and protections in the next Coronavirus Relief Bill.
