Alabama Election Protection Network is a collaborative of nonpartisan grassroots organizations who are dedicated to upholding the core values of democracy. We work to ensure an open, honest, and accountable government that serves the public interest; promote equal rights, opportunity, and representation for all; and empower all people to make their voices heard in the political process.
In 2021 we will be launching what we hope will become a permanent election management watchdog program to compensate for the loss of the preclearance provision of the federal Voting Rights Act (VRA) which eliminated the early warning system of state and county proposed voting and election changes along with the opportunity to object to them under Section 5 of VRA.
By establishing an Election Management Watchdog Program, we will ensure there is an ongoing, systematic method of compiling precinct and state level election management changes that impact voting and/or elections. With volunteer attendance at County Board of Registrar meetings we can document changes and precinct-level voting changes or irregularities, especially changes that may result in suppressing the vote, particularly in communities of color and where past irregularities have been identified.
AEPN will compile information and share that information publicly so that Alabama voters can stay informed, understand precinct-level or other changes that may impact their ability to participate in the electoral cycle, and to hold public officials accountable.
In America, elections should reflect the will of the people, not elected officials. We all want our voices to be heard in determining the future of our communities. The Alabama Election Protection Network is working towards fair and honest representation for all.
