Mariee was a happy, healthy toddler, who became ill one week after being detained with her mother at the CoreCivic immigration detention center in Dilley, TX. Mariee ran a 104 degree fever, lost 20% of her body weight, yet ICE initially treated her with only Vicks Vapor Rub, honey packets and ibuprofen. Mariee was hospitalized after she was released from ICE custody to her family in New Jersey, and she spent the last six weeks of her life in the ICU. She died in the hospital just before her second birthday. Mariee's mother's attorneys have filed a notice of claim against Eloy, the city that licenses the Dilley jail. We demand justice for Mariee. No child should die as a result of our country's hateful immigration policies.
