The Trump Administration recently expanded the availability of skimpy insurance plans known as short-term, limited-duration (STLD) health plans. STLD plans do not have to cover pre-existing conditions & insurers could deny coverage outright or charge higher premiums based on health status.
STLD plans are not required to cover services like prescriptions, inpatient hospital stays, outpatient surgery or pre-existing conditions. If you need this care, STLD plans could leave you with very high medical bills.
In response to the influx of these junk insurance plans in Illinois, the General Assembly passed SB 1737 -- only to have it vetoed by Governor Rauner.
During the next few weeks, we have a chance to override the governor’s veto by having the IL General Assembly pass SB 1737 AGAIN.
Please contact your Illinois General Assembly to urge them to vote YES on SB 1737 to protect Illinois consumers against unregulated short-term plans that put Illinoisans at long-term risk for poor health and massive debt!
