Click to Tell the DC Council and the Mayor to Invest in Multilingual Education for All

Demand for multilingual education in the District is off the charts, but only 8% of District youth have access to these opportunity-boosting programs.

Ask your councilmember to invest in multilingual education for all District youth by supporting funding in the FY2019 budget.

The Mayor’s proposed fiscal year (FY) 2019 budget DOES NOT include funding for multilingual education which is key to building a city that competes successfully in the global marketplace.

Join us now to urge the DC City Council to add $550,000 in the FY 2019 budget to support and expand multilingual education so that all families, regardless of where they live, have the choice to raise multilingual children who excel academically across subjects, interact effectively with people from different cultures, and have access to a world of opportunity.

Hello!

I am [your name] and I am a District resident.

As your constituent, I am asking you to please fully fund the Office of Multilingual Education in the 2019 fiscal year budget to the $550,000 requested, so the District can begin to act deliberately to support and expand multilingual education.

Multilingualism improves cognitive development and social skills, and helps our youth achieve better and gain access to better paying jobs. But currently only 8% of DC kids are on a path to becoming multilingual, and only 0.01% of the education budget is allocated to supporting and expanding multilingual education.

May I count on you to fully fund the $550,000 for the District to begin acting deliberately on multilingual education for all of our children?

Thank you!
