Automated Vehicles hold amazing promise to make people safer on our nation's roadways. To realize that potential we need Congress to set safety standards, including for people bicycling and walking.
While legislation is needed to help automated vehicles realize their promise, the SELF-DRIVE Act that was recently introduced into the House of Representatives fails to put Safety First.
- The SELF-DRIVE Act fails to include a "Vision Test" that would ensure that developers are creating automated vehicles that can detect and respond to pedestrians, bicyclists and wheelchair users - of all races and ethnicities.
- The SELF-DRIVE Act fails to learn the many lessons from lives lost since it was first introduced in 2017.
- The SELF-DRIVE Act fails to have strong safety safeguards for private technology companies who are experimenting for free on our nation's streets.
Please join us in OPPOSING the SELF-DRIVE Act and calling for legislation that really Puts Safety First.
