Defend Our Parks And Monuments

On April 26th, President Trump signed an executive order attempting to eliminate or shrink parks and monuments that have been protected by our presidents in recent decades, including Canyons of the Ancients in Colorado as well as 26 other national monument designations spanning desert vistas to giant sequoias.

The order also includes the incredible Bears Ears National Monument, which protects more than 100,000 irreplaceable sites of archaeological, cultural, and spiritual significance in an area held sacred by the Navaho, Hopi, Ute and Zuni. The executive order puts God’s creation—parks and national monuments—as well as our shared American history and heritage in jeopardy.

The executive order puts the fate of our parks and monuments in the hands of Secretary of the Interior, Ryan Zinke. Starting now and for just a few weeks, the Department of the Interior will be taking public comments about this order.

Now is the time to show Secretary Zinke and the Department of the Interior that people of faith want all national monuments to be protected for future generations so that we can faithfully tell all our stories. Take Action now!

Save our National Monuments

Dear Official,

Our national monuments and public lands and waters help define who we are as a nation by telling the story of our historical, cultural, and natural heritage. I am extremely disappointed that President Trump has signed an executive order that attempts to undermine our national monuments. Attempts to rollback protections for national monuments would be both illegal and terribly misguided and I strongly urge you to oppose any efforts to eliminate or shrink our national monuments.

National monuments help protect God's creation and tell the stories of God's people. National monuments help faithfully tell the stories of all of us. From the Native American story at Bears Ears to the framework story at Cesar Chavez to the African American story at Pullman. Our national monuments tell our stories and are places where we pray and play.

Bears Ears National Monument in Utah, which is first on the list for this “review”, is a textbook example of the priceless historic, cultural and natural wonders that are protected as National Monuments. Protecting 100,000 archaeological and cultural sites the monument honors the voices of five tribes who joined together to seek protection of their shared ancestral lands and traditions, Bears Ears National Monument should remain protected permanently.

An attempt to attack one monument by rolling back protections would be an attack on them all. Our shared history, culture, and natural treasures should be protected not dismantled. Monuments across the country should remain protected for future generations to enjoy - they are a gift that belongs to all Americans.

I am firmly opposed to any effort to revoke or diminish protections for National Monuments and I urge you to support our public lands and waters and recommend that our current national monuments remain protected.
