More Transparency Needed for Hidden Toxic Chemicals in Salon Products

Did you know that professional salon products do not need to label the ingredients on packaging? This loophole in our current law prevents salon workers and clients from knowing exactly what's in the products used to treat our hair and nails. In addition, the health risks from many of these salon products including dyes, hair relaxer, and nail polish, disproportionately impact women of color.

Consumers, manicurists, hair stylists, and other salon professionals all have the right to know what chemicals they are being exposed to everyday. California’s bill AB 1575, Professional cosmetics: labeling requirements, mandated transparency in products used by beauty professionals by requiring manufacturers to list ingredients on professional salon products.

Although the bill did not reach the Senate Floor this legislative session, Beautycounter pledges to continue our efforts in support of salon professionals’ ability to make informed choices in choosing beauty products.

Join us in continuing the fight to ensure transparency and accountability in the products used by thousands of Californians everyday.
