Right now, in most states, a pregnant worker can be placed in the impossible position of having to choose between their job and a healthy pregnancy. Someone who is otherwise able to do their job can be forced out just for seeking a reasonable accommodation – potentially leaving them without wages or health insurance when they need it most.
The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA) will ensure that any pregnant employee has the opportunity to work for their employer with dignity and respect. With the PWFA in place, pregnant workers would be able to receive reasonable accommodations, can’t be forced to accept an accommodation that they don’t want, and can’t be denied a job opportunity because of their need for pregnancy-related accommodations.
Congress needs to hear from us that pregnant workers should be protected and should receive the accommodations they need to do their jobs safely.
