Religious freedom is a fundamental American value. Our country is strongest when we are all free to believe or not, as we see fit, and to practice our faith without hurting others. The Do No Harm Act, just re-introduced in Congress by U.S. Rep. Joe Kennedy (D-Mass.) and Rep. Bobby Scott (D-Va.), will protect the religious freedom of all Americans.
The Do No Harm Act will ensure that a federal law that was designed as a shield to protect religion is not used as a sword to harm others by:
• undermining nondiscrimination laws;
• evading child welfare laws;
• denying access to healthcare; or
• trumping workplace laws.
This bill is more important than ever. President Trump asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions to write guidance that may well result in discrimination against LGBTQ people, women, religious minorities, nontheists and almost anyone else – all under the guise of religious freedom. The Do No Harm Act would serve as a roadblock.
The Do No Harm Act helps safeguard civil rights, healthcare, and religious freedom. Urge your Representative to co-sponsor this vital bill today, or thank them if they are already a co-sponsor!
