Tell your Senators to Support the RAISE Act!

The Reforming American Immigration for Strong Employment (RAISE) Act, sponsored by Senators Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and David Perdue (R-Ga.), is critical legislation to finally reform U.S. immigration law to favor the national interest and recognize the American people as the primary stakeholders in their nation’s immigration policy. The RAISE Act overhauls our green card process by creating a merit-based immigration system and establishing sustainable immigration levels.

Immigrants selected for their job skills currently comprise only about 6 percent of the current immigrant flow. Significantly reducing overall immigration and eliminating preferences for extended family members, known as chain migration, would ensure that those selected to come to the U.S. would be more likely to succeed, and would complement, rather than compete with, American workers.

Key components of the bill include:

  • Ends the senseless chain migration policy that gives out green cards based on family connections regardless of the ability to contribute to society. Instead, only the nuclear family qualifies for a family-based green card.
  • Establishes a point-based system that would help select immigrants who have the most to offer this nation and have the skill set needed to achieve once they arrive, while reducing the immigrant flow to traditional levels.
  • Reduces the immigrant flow from 1.1 million to traditional levels around 550,000 within a decade.
  • Eliminates the needless and fraud-ridden visa lottery.
  • Places a responsible, firm limit on refugee admissions at 50,000 per year.
