SB 450, a bill that would allow students to be coerced into prayer in Oklahoma public schools, will soon face a vote on the Senate floor. Now is the time to urge your Senator to vote NO on this bill!
SB 450 claims to stop public schools from restricting a student’s “voluntary religious expression in the classroom,” but it’s really about promoting school prayer. For example, under this bill, students could proselytize during class, lead a prayer over the school intercom during morning announcements or introduce varsity football games with a prayer.
Our public schools serve students of all faiths and none, but this bill would make students who follow different religions or beliefs from the majority feel like outsiders in their own schools. Tell your Senator to oppose SB 450!
